[ad_pod ]West Ham welcome Liverpool to the London Stadium on Monday night, in a game that the Reds absolutely have to win after failing to take full advantage of Manchester City’s slip up against Newcastle. However, whilst Jurgen Klopp’s men have lost just one game all season, the game against the Hammers will prove to be an extremely tricky test, as Manuel Pellegrini’s men have a number of players that can cause significant damage.
The danger man
The east Londoners have a handful of flair players within their ranks, such as Marko Arnautovic, Manuel Lanzini, Samir Nasri and Felipe Anderson, although it is the latter who could tear apart a tired Reds backline apart.
Be sure to check out the incredible story of the man who rose from a Tanzanian refugee camp to become one of Australia’s biggest football stars in the video below…
Virgil van Dijk looked likely to miss the game against the Foxes, but managed to pass a late fitness test, but he looked unlike his usually imperious self amongst a makeshift defence still missing Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson in an unusual right-back position made up the rest of the defence along with the ever-present Andrew Robertson, but they looked shaky and conceded a sloppy goal to Harry Maguire.
How Anderson can cause them further damage
James Milner, who was suspended for the Leicester game, should return to the side at right-back against the Hammers, but Brazilian international Anderson could have him on toast.
Klopp’s utility man received a red card late on against Crystal Palace after continuously being skinned by Wilfried Zaha, so Anderson should look to that for inspiration as a way of taking full advantage of Liverpool’s right-back issues.
If Anderson can give Milner enough trouble early on in the game, and in doing so bring an extra Reds defender or midfielder over to that side to help the former England international out, then there should be space for the rest of the Hammers’ front line to cause some damage in the final third – the 33-year-old has to deal with Anderson early if Liverpool want to maintain a grip on the game.
