With all of Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Diogo Dalot and Matteo Darmian available for selection for this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace, Jose Mourinho has a selection headache at right-back that he has not had to deal with thus far, as a result of the aforementioned players’ injury issues.
The former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss started the Italian international Darmian in the first Premier League game of the season against Leicester, but has since opted to deploy Young and Valencia in the role whilst summer signing Dalot recovers from injury.
A £19m signing from Porto, 19-year-old Dalot is the only one of the quartet signed by the current Red Devils boss himself, suggesting that he intends to allow the teenager to make the position his own in the near future.
The Portuguese full-back, and Mourinho’s fellow countryman, has played just once this season against Young Boys in the Champions League – however, many of the Old Trafford faithful are desperate to see more of the youngster.
As previously mentioned, with all of the possible candidates for the role available for selection, we put the question to United fans over who they think should be entrusted to deal with Wilfried Zaha if he plays from the left this weekend.
Amazingly, a telling 78% of United fans who partook in the poll want to see Dalot given a starting berth, with little love on show for the remaining three candidates as seen in the results below…
