Newcastle fans are once again heaping praise on Mo Diame, but they haven’t got quite such nice things to say about Moussa Sissoko.

Around Christmas time, Newcastle fans were desperate for a new central midfielder to partner Jonjo Shelvey.

The January transfer window was a successful one for the Magpies, as Kenedy and Martin Dubravka have both been hugely successful in their loan stays, but it did not bring the centre midfielder they were crying out for.

Luckily for Newcastle fans, the out of favour Mo Diame suddenly remembered what a good footballer he is capable of being, and has formed a formidable partnership with Shelvey.

The 30 year-old is averaging the second most tackles per 90 minutes in the league behind Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, and fans are thanking their lucky stars they have him instead of Moussa Sissoko.

Sissoko of course jumped ship to Tottenham when the Magpies were relegated, but has taken plenty of stick from Tottenham fans themselves during his time in North London.

Diame certainly looked the better player between the two of them on Wednesday night, despite the Magpies falling to a 1-0 defeat at Wembley.
