Louis Van Gaal is expected to be in the market for a whole host of top class talent this summer, and what better place to do your shopping than at a World Cup.

Luckily enough, he’s seeing it first hand as manager of Holland, so he’s best placed to make judgement on who will be he right players to come in and get United back to where they belong – the top four of the Premier League at the very least.

So following on from Part One of our World Cup transfer hitless yesterday, here’s a look at 25 other players Van Gaal should be looking at this summer…

Mattia De Sciglio

AC Milan’s young right-back is mature beyond his 21 years. De Sciglio is defensively astute, and a good crosser when he gets into dangerous areas. Milan’s financial troubles could see them ridding themselves of one of their youngest talents.

Thiago Motta

Motta is a calm presence in front of both the Paris St Germain and the Italy back four. He is strong, good in the air, and an extremely assured passer of the ball. He’s a classy player that would fit Manchester United’s midfield.

Claudio Marchisio

The Juventus midfielder has been linked with United in the past. He has fallen down the pecking order at Juventus, and could possibly look for a move to secure more playing time, and van Gaal could offer him this.

Gabriel Paletta

Once a Liverpool man, but barely anybody remembers, Paletta has matured into one of Italy’s best centre-backs. He is disciplined and commanding at the back, and Man United need a leader to fill the void left by Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.

Diego Godin

Edinson Cavani

Cavani has been annoyed at being regularly deployed in wide positions for the majority of last season at PSG, and there are suggestions he is itching for a move away already. His all-round striking abilities will make the United attack a lethal force.

Eliaquim Mangala

Mangala is open to a move to United this summer, but will cost a pretty weighty sum. He’s young, hungry, enthusiastic, and full of potential. He wouldn’t add experience, but he would bring yet more youthful potential to United’s defence.

Antoine Griezmann

A lack of goals and penetration have been hallmarks of United’s wing play last season, and Griezmann would all but solve that problem. He is a genuine goal threat, both on the ground and in the air, and he is a constant menace to his opposing full-back.

Ricardo Rodriguez

The Swiss left-back is one of Europe’s most prized up-and-coming full-backs. His delivery from the left wing is consistent, as is his defensive discipline. He would make a perfect replacement for Evra.

Granit Xhaka

Xhaka is the creative node in the centre of the Borussia Monchengladbach and the Swiss midfield. He boasts an impressive array of passing and fantastic shooting ability. Comparisons have been drawn between Xhaka and Schweinsteiger in the past.

Ezequiel Garay

Garay is one of those players who is perennially linked with United. Their apparent interest never seems to cool, and after an outstanding season with Benfica, winning the Portuguese double, Garay could attract their interest once more.

Angel Di Maria

For some reason Angel Di Maria’s future at Real Madrid is less-than-certain. He is dependable, versatile, and incredibly talented. Di Maria is one of the finest footballers worldwide, and should be a target if Madrid choose to let him go.

Miralem Pjanic

Pjanic was central to Roma’s successful season in 2013-14, and he is the beating heart of Bosnia’s midfield. He can dominate a game with his vision and passing range. Roma won’t look to sell, but United’s draw could prove too much.

Sead Kolasinac

Kolasinac is a powerhouse at left-back for club and country. He is fearless and willing, always ready to take one for the team. He isn’t the most subtle of attackers, but his sheer determination makes him a threat.

Mats Hummels

Dortmund’s star man at the back has been linked to United for over a year now. He is a fantastic reader of the game, and rarely gets caught out. Dortmund’s squad are always threatened with being ram-raided, and Hummels could be the next this summer.

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Schweinsteiger is likely to leave Bayern Munich this summer, and his creative abilities would help solve some of the deficiencies in the United midfield. He can conduct the tempo of a game from his deep midfield position, while providing a goal threat with his late runs.

Sami Khedira

Khedira’s injury earlier on this season could have permanently pushed him down the pecking order at Real Madrid. He is still undeniably a quality player, able to carry the ball from midfield and make bursting runs up the field. He may just benefit with a move to Old Trafford.

Toni Kroos

The Bayern Munich man has been in protracted contract negotiations with his club for some time now. Speculation persists over his future whereabouts, and Manchester United currently appears the most likely destination.

Julian Draxler

The lanky playmaker was close to a move to Arsenal in January. He is a dangerous dribbler and a smart passer of the ball in the final third. Playing from the left, Draxler would add creativity to the United flanks.

Kwadwo Asamoah

The Ghanaian winger is a popular player at Juventus, with his energetic, committed approach having been well-received since he arrived from Udinese. He can fill in at left-back or as a left-mid, and his endless presence is an annoyance for defences.

Fabio Coentrao

Coentrao is firmly behind Marcelo at Real Madrid, and could be keen to move on in order to secure a first-team spot. With Evra on his last legs at United, Coentrao’s athleticism and energy could make him a logical successor.

William Carvalho

Carvalho has been watched all season long by Manchester United’s scouts and they are keen to secure him. He is a commanding presence in midfield, using his physicality to win the ball back and his passing ability to initiate attacks.

Thomas Vermaelen

Vermaelen is expected to leave Arsenal this summer after 18 months of frustration in North London. During his best years Vermaelen was a dominant figure at the back. He was a prolific goalscorer, and a magnificent reader of the game.

Jan Vertonghen

Vertonghen went off the boil at Tottenham this season. He aspires to play in the Champions League and while United can’t offer that immediately, they have more potential than Spurs. He is a high quality centre-back and may need a new start to rediscover his best form.

Axel Witsel

Witsel is the rock upon which Belgium’s attacking players can rely on. He is an accomplished, technically gifted destroyer in the centre of midfield. Witsel would give United a solid foundation upon which to build attacks from midfield.
