With Andriy Yarmolenko set for an extended period out of the West Ham team following an achilles injury picked up against Tottenham, manager Manuel Pellegrini is on the lookout for attacking reinforcements.
And one name the Chilean has considered is Samir Nasri, though any potential deal for the 31-year-old now looks unlikely.
The Breakdown
According to Sky Sports, West Ham have concerns over the fitness of the free agent who underwent a medical with the club on Monday.
Nasri has not played any football for some time now after receiving a band for breaching World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules back in 2016, which now looks to have cost him the chance to sign for the east London club.
That, however, may come as a blessing in disguise for the Hammers who do have other options they can turn to in Yarmolenko’s absence, options who certainly have what it takes to make an impact in the team.
Youngster Grady Diangana, for example, has already come into the side since Yarmolenko’s injury and has managed to make quite the impression.
Meanwhile, Michail Antonio, who may not be as technically gifted as an individual such as Nasri, more often than not, puts in a solid performance when called upon.
Considering everything, Nasri is a player who could have given West Ham something heading into the second half of the season, especially with Yarmolenko sidelined.
However, Pellegrini still has enough options to get by with, while the transfer window will be there in January if the Chilean feels there is an absolute need to bring someone in.
